Kia has reached a new sales milestone in the UK, having now sold over 100,000 vehicles and reaching a record market share…
A Milestone for Kia
Whilst the UK’s automotive industry has been struggling to recover its pre-Covid vitality, Kia has managed to achieve significant success over recent months. It reached a new sales milestone in December, having sold 100,191 vehicles in a single year. It’s also reached its highest market share ever, 6.2% – meaning it’s now the sixth largest brand in the country. These achievements are even more impressive given that the industry faced a 2% downturn overall.
Demand for Kia’s models was largely a product of the launch of the new, fifth-edition Sportage and the rising popularity of the Picanto. The Sportage PHEV has also proven to be particularly popular with business drivers, thanks to its 8% Benefit-in-Kind rate. Growth has also been attributed to the XCeed model, which comes with a variety of powertrain options. Overall, Kia has sold 1.4 million vehicles in the UK since it launched back in the summer of 1991.
Paul Philpott, president and CEO of Kia UK, commented on the new sales milestone. He said, “reaching 100,000 new car sales in 2022 is a significant milestone and testament to the hard work, determination and belief that each of our dealer partners have placed in Kia. It is also a time to say thank you to our dealers and our customers for their trust and loyalty”.
He continued, “since Kia first entered the UK car market 32 years ago, the brand has gone from strength-to-strength. Kia has continually thrived in a challenging market, our brand and products have evolved and perceptions have changed. Each of these have played an important role in Kia’s sustainable and organic growth”.
